A dental bridge is an artificial, but permanent, dental treatment that allows you to fill the gap left by one, or many, missing teeth. The conventional dental bridge features a prosthetic tooth attached to a crown which is then fitted to an adjoining tooth.
Types of bridges may vary, depending upon how they are fabricated and the way they anchor to the adjacent teeth. A bridge is fabricated by reducing the teeth on either side of the missing tooth or teeth by a preparation pattern determined by the location of the teeth and by the material from which the bridge is fabricated.
Dental bridges can be used to replace teeth that have been damaged and subsequently extracted. If you have had the extraction because of advanced decay where root canal was not a suitable option, your dentist may suggest a dental bridge instead.
